Scaled Realities

Rapid City, MI

Meet the Maker

I got started in 3d printing back in the early days. You know back when the hobby was 90% diagnosing why the print failed and 10% euphoria when it worked the way it was suppose to. I have had several 3d printers over the years, slowly updating and technology has improved until I got my FLSun Q5 delta printer. This printer, while small, is nearly bullet proof and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to join the hobby.

At this point I turned my attention to resin printing. I have been a table top gamer, and a want-a-be model railroader for longer than the home 3d printing market has existed, and now with resin printers being very well established, I decided it was time. You see Resin prints are a much higher resolution than the FDM printers I had used for years.

About the same time I started working the fair and festival circuit in my local area. I sold a combination of home made and mass produced gaming supplies. The resin printer fit right in and Scaled Realities was born.

I wanted to be sure I was doing the right. No ripping off an artist and stealing their stuff. So I went looking for a good art source. I soon after found Artisan Guild on patron and have never looked back. The sculpts are beautiful. As soon as I could I purchased my merchants license. With that license I can legally print and sell Artisan Guild models.

The model where at hit at my shows. I didn't "sell out" at every event, but I often had to print the more popular models on site. As the season slowed and we headed into winter, I started looking for other outlets. That lead me to Etsy and eventually to here. So now here I am. It been a long ride and along the way I stated making my own dice, and building other supplies in my woodshop. My goal is to be a one stop supply for all your table top gaming needs.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my store. I appreciate your interest and your business. If you have any questions, please ask. If you have custom needs, ask, I may be able to do that too.

How it’s Made

All Scaled Realities Miniatures are 3d printed. The file is "sliced" using a computer program to turn the 3d modal into a series of 2d drawings. The printer then uses these drawings to shine an image up through the liquid resin causing it to fuse into a solid on the printers build surface. This process then repeats hundreds, or depending on the size of the model and the thickness of the slice, even thousands of times. When it is finished, you have a complete, if somewhat goopy, 3d print.

In the next step the print is moved from the printer into a wash and cure station. Here the print is washed in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol for between 7 and 15 minutes. It is then removed from the build surface and placed on a turntable under UV light to finish curing.

After washing and curing the print moves to our prep and pack station where any support material is removed. Finally it is bagged along with any accessories, tagged, and packaged. The shipping label is applied and it is sent to USPS.

Start to finish one 3d printed miniature takes about 3 hours to produce. However we try not to make just one miniature. Unless it is one of our oversized "boss" or "epic" sculpts we normally print in quantities of 4 or 6 depending on size. This fits comfortably on one build plate. We have printed as may as 10 in one go, but that is an unusual case.

I hope this gives you a better understanding of our processes and How It's Made!

Special Requests

Our sculpts are licensed. Because of this we are limited in what we can and can not do with the sculpts themselves. That said we have had several requests since we started doing this and I will try to cover them here.

1) Can you change the scale? - Yes within reason. We can scale up as large as our printer can handle. Down is harder. I am not sure what the bottom limit is, but 28mm is perfectly doable. I believe I have done 20mm successfully. The best plan is to ask me before you buy.

2) Can you mirror it? - Need a lefty but the model is a righty? Yes we can do that.

3) Can you swap the weapons with the ones from this other listing? - Generally yes. They are mostly cross compatible, some will require some trial and error, but most likely we can do it.

4) Can you swap the mount with this other one? - Again, generally yes. They are mostly cross compatible. However, if they are incompatible, I can not fix this one. If I see an issue I will let you know.

5) I don't care about weapon x, y, or z. I want a spear and shield for every unit. - Can do. Your still going to get weapons x, y and z though. And unless you go crazy, there is no upcharge for this service.

6) Can you take the head from this one and put it on that one? - No. This is beyond the scope of my license. I am not allowed to modify, take away from, or add to the sculpts.
